Of course it is my right foot, so it's going to be a while before I can drive again, so its going to be a while before I can get a job. I've already had to turn down a temp gig because of it. (Grrrr)
Lottery gods, you need to get your act in order. It doesn't have to be a big one, just enough to keep things going until I heal up and can find something with reasonable pay. Enough to install some A/C would be nice too.

Killing time...
Graduation occured and I managed a straight A semester, including in Business Law, which is almost unheard of. I really wish I could have looked at that final exam to see what I got right/wrong, since I didn't feel that confident when I walked out. Maybe he had to curve things again. Apparently my section did so badly on the second exam that he added 14 points to everyone's grade to bring them back up to the norm. It was a 250 point exam and I had 236 before he added the points. (I wonder if that's why he gave people 14, so I didn't end up with better than 100%?)
Whatever the reason, I'm not complaining, and it's kind of nice to know that my Diploma, even if it is for my fifth college degree, and only an Associate's, will be Summa Cum Laude. I should have gone into student services after the grades came out (which was after the graduation ceremony) and asked if I could get a gold tassel to replace the silver one I was given for the ceremony since they had to base the ceremony notes on what you had as of the end of the previous semester when I was off Summa by .01 on my GPA.
And now I need to get my FAFSA in order, apply to Post for their MS in Accounting and their Certificate in Forensic Accounting, and find a job.
Not necessarily in that order.
At least I'm starting to get some real house cleaning done since my right shoulder is starting to feel better (yay, new PT practice), and the left one is almost back to where it should have been if I hadn't had half the cartilage wear out. I'm also trying to finish at least a few of the (far too many) cross stitch and embroidery kits I've picked up over the years, so I'm also doing a ton of Netflixing (OK, a lot of it was actually on Hulu or Xfinity), catching up on shows I haven't watched all year and stuff I'd never watched. I made it through 10 seasons of Supernatural in about 2 weeks, I've caught up on Grimm and Castle (the last minute of the finale was very poorly done), watched the first series of Happy Valley, and I'm now watching Sleepy Hollow. I am very sad that we only have 5 more episodes of Hell on Wheels, but at least, for once, I'm watching something essentially real time. Now can they just get Season 2 of the Librarians up somewhere?

Family, gotta love them
I've been trying to explain to my parents why I'm not currently job hunting, and why I'm not going to be taking any classes this summer. My mother understands, perhaps because she's gone through something moderately similar with her hip replacement.
My father has been wondering aloud on a daily basis why I'm not job hunting right now, and explaining that no one is going to want to hire someone who will have to go out on medical leave for at least two months hasn't cut it. I'm obviously just being a wuss. And then earlier this week he ran into a young man on campus with his arm in a sling and got talking to him. The kid had a similar surgery to what I'm going to have, but his was about two months ago. He's still using a sling a lot of the time, and his rehab team have just started letting him use his hand to pick up relatively light-weight objects, like a cup of coffee.
Suddenly with outside, independant verification (NIH, Mayo clinic, Yale, etc online apparently don't count/sigh) Dad can suddenly understand what I've been talking about for over a month and why I'm doing what I'm doing (or not doing).
So now I just have to fill out paperwork to see if I can be counted as "disabled" either temporarily because of the shoulder (sadly, I think I won't be for long enough unless, God forbid, something goes wrong in surgery) or perrmanently because of the knee. Any degree of disability might make certain types of assistance available, and right now any extra funds coming in will be a Good Thing. Also, sad to say, being officially "Disabled" might make me more employable, because folks still have to tick of those EEOC boxes. It's stupid, but as long as it's there, I might as well see if I can use it to my advantage. I've got a family to help support.
Now, if anyone can find a job which doesn't mind a new employee leaving for two to three months of medical leave right after starting , I'll be happy to apply. At least I can truthfully say I've never had to leave a job because of something that was my fault.

Same old, same old...
I'm still job hunting, but hoping to hear in a day or two about a long term temp position I was interviewed for last week. It sounds like something I could do very well, and which I would find interesting, and which just might turn into a permanent position too.
Meanwhile I'm getting ready to take the third of four exams in my summer accounting course, and just as that one finishes up start the Technical Writing class. I'm planning to take the second accounting semester this fall as well as the one on accounting programs, which seems to focus on Quickbooks, which is what an incredible number of jobs want you to have knowledge of, even if it's an admin assistant job.
This whole job hunt/too much time on your hands/too little money in the bank thing has been old for way too long already. And then I get to talk to people who've been looking for two years compared to my seven months.
The economy is terrible. CT's economy is one of the worst in the country, and this section of CT is the worst in the state.
Yay.

Not exactly comforting
Today in the mail I got a notice from the Connecticut Department of Labour, telling me that I "have been selected to be part of the .... Enhanced Re-employment Services program".
I checked this out at the department's website, and it tells me that
Mostly the website talks about help with resumés, employment referrals, etc., though perhaps at the orientation I will find out that they will pay for some retraining. If I could add some IT certificates, particularly in web page and database management I might be able too find something within an hour of where I live. Maybe.
"The Enhanced Re-employment Services program identifies customers who are likely to exhaust their unemployment benefits before returning to the same or similar employment. This program provides additional services to these job-seeking customers to help them get back to work more quickly."This is NOT comforting. However, it does tempt me to send a copy of the letter to my old HR department, since they seemed to think that I would have no trouble what-so-ever finding a new job, and anyway, my skill set is so transferable. They got a deer-in-the-headlights look when I told them that a) there were no full-time library jobs within commuting distance, and b) my skills don't transfer to any jobs which pay $25/h.
